The Boundless Verity Of Celine Dion
Celine Dion
Celine Dion is one of the bestselling female pop artists of all time, best known for “My Heart Will Go On”, the theme from the movie, Titanic. Dion grew up as the youngest in a poverty-stricken family of 14 children.
She had little or no education, but her family was musically talented and, at age 5, she began singing in a small piano bar owned by her parents. At 12, she recorded her first song in French. Her brother sent a copy of the recording to a music manager, René Angélil. Angélil was brought to tears by Dion’s voice.
He decided to make her a star and even mortgaged his home to fund her first record,“La Voix Du Bon Dieu”. Dion became an instant star, and Angélil later became her husband. At 18, Dion watched Michael Jackson perform and she wanted to be like him.Angélil felt that in order for her to be marketed worldwide, she needed to change her image.
Dion was sent to school to improve her English, where she learnt the language in three months. Besides numerous Academy and Grammy awards, Dion won the Chopard Diamond award in 2004, which is presented to artists who have sold over 100 million albums. Dion had in fact sold 175 million albums! As of 2005, only three artists have earned the Chopard Diamond.
